Chris Olson came to paddle reviews sideways. Homeschooled in Minnesota and, by his own account, convinced for years that he wasn't clever, he picked up a Rubik's cube at 12 and was breaking speedcubing world records by 15 — then shot a Netflix documentary about that world as its cinematographer. Pickleball arrived in 2021, during the pandemic slump that followed, when a friend took him to a court and he lost badly enough to buy a paddle set the next day. He started filming reviews because the space had nothing like the production values or systematic testing he was used to, and Pickleball Studio became the channel paddle brands watch.
