Privacy policy
Last updated 21 October 2026
This explains what we collect, why, who else sees it, and how to have it removed. It describes what the site actually does rather than what a policy template usually says, so where we do something unusual it is written down.
The short version
- You can read everything here without an account, and we never sell anything about you.
- We use Google Analytics, so a cookie and your approximate location reach Google on every page.
- An account is optional, and exists only so a paddle rating can be counted once per person.
- A profile is public only once you put a name in it. Signing in publishes nothing.
- Ask us to delete your account and we delete it, along with your ratings.
Reading the site
You do not need an account to read anything. When you visit, these happen whether or not you are signed in:
- Google Analytics
- We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages are read. It sets cookies and sends Google your IP address, approximate location, device and the pages you view. We use it to decide what to write next, not to identify anybody. You can block it with an ad blocker or Google'sopt-out add-on.
- Google Fonts
- The site's typefaces are served by Google, which means your IP address reaches Google when a page loads, even if you block analytics. We would rather serve them ourselves and intend to.
- Netlify
- Our host. Like any web server it keeps short-lived logs of requests, including IP addresses, for security and reliability.
- Site search
- Searching puts your query in the address bar, so it appears in those server logs and in Google Analytics alongside the page view. Do not put anything private in it.
If you create an account
Accounts exist for one reason: so a paddle rating can be tied to a person and counted once. Signing in is the only way to be counted, and it is entirely optional — you can rate a paddle without one, and it will be kept on your device until you decide.
- Signing in with Google
- We use Google sign-in and receive your email address and the name on your Google account. We never see your Google password. We do not post anything to your Google account and cannot read anything in it.
- Your profile
- Everything on a profile is optional and you write it yourself: name, photo, short bio, city and country, home club, skill level, DUPR rating, how long and how often you play, and links to your social accounts. Your email address is never shown publicly and never appears on your profile.
- Your last name
- Shown only as an initial unless you explicitly ask us to show it in full. We default to the initial because a full name, once indexed by a search engine, cannot be taken back.
- Your ratings
- The scores you give a paddle, roughly how many times you have played with it, whether you bought it, and any connection you disclose to the brand. These are published alongside your profile name, because a rating nobody stands behind is worth less than one somebody does.
- Written reviews
- If you write one, we store it but do not publish it. We will not start publishing written reviews without saying so first and giving you a chance to delete yours.
- Supabase
- Accounts, profiles and ratings are stored with Supabase, our database provider. Their systems can access the data in order to run the service.
What is public, and when
Creating an account publishes nothing. A public profile page appears only once you enter a first name, and the account page tells you so before you do, and shows you the exact address it will have.
Once public, your profile shows your display name, anything you chose to fill in, how many paddles you have rated, and the month you joined. It is a normal web page, so search engines can find and cache it. Links to your social accounts carrynofollow, and we do not check that you own them — your profile says they are linked, never that they are verified.
On your device
A rating you give before signing in is kept in your browser's local storage so it is not lost. It stays on your device until you sign in, and clearing your site data removes it. Signing in also stores a session token in the same place so you are not asked to sign in on every page.
Writing to us
The correction and reviewer-suggestion forms send what you type — including your email address if you give one — to us through Netlify Forms. We use it to answer you and to check the correction, and nothing else.
The newsletter
Our newsletter is run by Beehiiv on their own site. Subscribing happens there under their privacy policy; we do not collect your email on this one.
What we never do
- Sell or rent your personal information to anybody.
- Show advertising, or run advertising trackers.
- Share your email address with paddle brands, or with anyone else.
- Publish your last name unless you ask us to.
- Publish your written reviews, today.
- Let a brand pay to change a score, see who rated them, or have a rating removed.
How long we keep things
Your account and profile stay until you delete them. Ratings stay while your account does — delete the account and the ratings go with it. Analytics data is kept on Google's retention schedule. Form submissions are kept while they are useful for answering you and checking the correction.
Your choices
- Edit or delete anything on your profile at any time from your account page, including removing your photo.
- Delete your account. Email us at hello@speakpickleball.com and we will delete the account, the profile and the ratings on it.
- Ask for a copy of what we hold about you, and we will send it.
- Take your profile down without deleting your account — ask, and we will hide it while keeping your ratings counting anonymously.
- Opt out of analytics with a blocker or Google's opt-out add-on.
If you are in the UK, EU, California or anywhere else with its own rules about this, those rights apply to you here. Write to us and we will do it — we would rather do it on request than make you prove where you live.
Children
This site is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly create accounts for them. If you believe a child has an account here, tell us and we will remove it.
Changes
If we change this in a way that affects what we collect or who sees it, we will change the date at the top and say so on the site rather than quietly republish.
